Popular used Toyota models include the Matrix, Tercel, the Tacoma, 4Runner, RAV4, Tundra and the four wheel drive Highlander. The Toyota Motor Company was first established in 1937, having previously developed several car and truck prototypes during the period from 1935 to 1937. During the 40's and 50's the company launched several models, (including the Toyota Land Cruiser) primarily focused at the Japanese market. In 1957 Toyota Motors USA was established and the first export of a Car (the Toyota Crown) was made into the USA. By 1969, the company had exported more than one million automobile units. 1978 saw the release of the Toyota Celica (currently the Supra) and cumulative exports topped 10 million in that same year. In 1984 Toyota announced a joint venture with General Motors whereby United Motor Manufacturing was established. 1988 saw the opening of a Toyota plant in Kentucky. The popular RAV4 was launched in 1994 and the energy efficient Hybrid Prius was announced in 1997. By 2002 Toyota North American production exceeded 10 million units. In Canada, Toyota manufactures the Corolla and the Matrix in Cambridge Ontario.
