HYUNDAI BACKGROUNDER:
Popular Hyundai vehicle models include the Hyundai Civic, Honda Accent, Hyundai Elantra, Hyundai Sonata, the sporty Hyundai Tiburon and the Santa Fe. Hyundai Motors Co was established in Seoul Korea in 1946, but did not produce its first car until 1974 when the Hyundai Pony was launched. Based on Italian, Japanese and American automotive technology the Pony rapidly gained Korean popularity and proved to be a tremendous success in South Korea. In 1982 the Pony II was launched and by 1984 Hyundai Pony II production exceeded 500,00 units. It was not until 1985 that Hyundai America was born and the Hyundai Excel production line was aggressively launched. During the late 1980's and into the 1990's, Hyundai introduced numerous new models including the mid sized Sonata, the Elantra, the Accent and the sporty Tiberon.
