CADILLAC HISTORY: Cadillac - Established in 1902 and General Motors' premium luxury brand is often recognized as the epitome of the American Automobile. Since its founding Cadillac has produced some of the worlds most recognized vehicles, from the Cadillac V16's of the nineteen thirties to the Cadillac Eldorado of 1953 and the iconic Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz of 1959. Modern Cadillac's are known as luxury vehicles and with a stable of vehicles such as the Cadillac Coupe Deville, the Sedan Deville and the Seville. The top of the Cadillac line, and the choice for many Presidential Limousines was the Cadillac Fleetwood.
In recent years Cadillac discontinued the use of vehicle names such as the Cadillac Eldorado and Cadillac Seville for a simpler naming convention and the Cadillac line became the Cadillac STS, the Cadillac DTS, Cadillac CTS and the ultra luxury Cadillac Convertible, the Cadillac XLR.
In addition to their car line, Cadillac introduced an SUV model in 1999, the Cadillac Escalade. This vehicle was such a success that with the introduction of the second generation Cadillac Escalade, General Motors Corporation expanded the Cadillac Escalade range to include a long wheelbase Cadillac Escalade ESV, and a truck version (based on the Chevrolet Avalanche), the Cadillac Escalade EXT. In addition to thes utility vehicles, Cadillac also offers the Cadillac SRX, a smaller interpretation on the Cadillac SUV theme.
To ensure Cadillac's image as a premium vehicle manufacturer, Cadillac launched their high performance range the Cadillac V-Series of cars. This consisted of the Cadillac CTS-V, a Corvette engined version of the Cadillac CTS Sedan, the Cadillac STS-V with a supercharged version of Cadillac's NorthStar V8 and the performance Cadillac XLR-V with the same Cadillac Northstar V8 engine.
In 2008 the second generation Cadillac CTS was awarded the coveted Motor Trend Car of the Year. In addition to their North American Range, Cadillac Europe offers a Cadillac BLS sedan and wagon based on a SAAB platform and with the option of gas and diesel engine choices.
